Bldg 210 Fort Riley - Welcome to Fort Riley, home of the 1st Infantry Division, known as the Big Red One. The fort was established in 1852 at the junction of two rivers to protect the westward routes. It was Major General Bennett C. who led the first military expedition along the Santa Fe Trail in 1829. Named for Riley. The fort was used for many years as the home of American troops, including the famous "Buffalo Soldiers." It served as a major training and transit center during World War II.

Covering an area of ​​more than 101,000 hectares, the fort has a daily population of about 25,000 and about 7,700 residents.

The fort is located at the junction of the Kansas River, Smoky Hill, and Republican Rivers near the junction city of the same name, 71 miles west of Topeka. This area in north central Kansas is called the Kaw.

There is no transit, however, there are several transportation options available from the Junction City Airport. Authorized military taxi companies may drop off passengers at the location, however ride-hailing companies may require passengers to drop off at the gate. USO, located in Terminal 1, has discounted flights that must be booked in advance. The Metro Transit System (MTS) runs from the airport to the city center where one can catch a trolley, train or bus. Driving directions to Fort Riley if driving west from I-70 or Topeka or Kansas City International Airport (KCI):

Security personnel will check 100% IDs at all gates. All visitors must have a valid military ID or go to the Visitor Center to get one. Pass information and entry requirements can be found here.

Fort Riley: In Depth Welcome Center

All active duty Soldiers must report to 1st Replacement Company (except for the following units: MEDDAC, DENTAC, CID, and reserve staff) and sign in through Department of Defense staff at Bldg 208 on Custer Avenue (Main Post). Enter the back of the building and go to the office on the ground floor of the Central Administration Building. The desk is open 24/7. The uniform is OCPs during working hours (0800-1700 Monday to Friday).

First Sergeants and higher officers may continue their own periodic enlistments while Staff Sergeants below are assigned to the 1st Replacement Barracks for control. Individual soldiers or infantrymen are stationed in barracks during processing.

If you arrive at the Manhattan (MCI), Wichita (ICT), Kansas City (KCI) airports and require transportation, staff are authorized to send a driver to bring you back during a PCS move.

The ID Department/Deer Office is your one-stop shop for DEER/RAPIDS and ID issues. You can make appointments for IDs and deer by calling ahead or using this website. For help on how to use the RAPIDS site to schedule appointments, follow the instructions here. Soldiers of the 1st Infantry Division must contact their S-1 unit for ID service instead of using the RAPIDS rendezvous link.

Services are by appointment but clients are seen between 0730 and 0800. However, appointments take priority.

Part of Geary County Unified School District 475, there are five elementary schools and one high school on post. Here is a helpful military resource page that can help them get your child registered and settled quickly. The district has 14 elementary schools (including five on post), two middle schools (one later), and one high school.

Ogden and Manhattan are part of Manhattan-Ogden Public School District 383, which consists of nine elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools and early learning centers.

Riley Castle is located in stormy terrain, so it can go from bright sunshine to dark clouds very quickly. Winter warms up with colder air, so be sure to pack warm clothes and an outer shell that prevents the wind from stealing your body heat, especially when you're out in the field. Summers are hot and humid, although not as hot as in the south. The average annual temperature is around 20 degrees in the winter, sometimes reaching the single digits, while the summer averages 92 degrees and can occasionally break 100.

There are plenty of outdoor activities, especially with the three rivers and the large lake surrounding the house. Fishing and camping are popular pastimes at Milford State Park and Tuttle Creek State Park, and hiking on the Konsa Prairie, home to buffalo. During football season, check out a Kansas State game just a short drive from home in Manhattan. Also popular in the rodeo area are Heritage Days, the Spring Tulip Festival featuring hundreds of vendors and art on a wall of tulip fields at the airport, and Christmas concerts by the 1st Division Band.
