354th Fighter Group - The 354th Fighter Wing is a wing of the United States Air Force that is part of the Pacific Air Forces (PACAF). It is the host wing at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, and is assigned to the Eleventh Air Force (11 AF).

The wing replaced the 343d Fighter Wing on 20 August 1993 as part of an overall effort to maintain the lineage of the Air Force's most respected wings. Prior to inactivation, the 343d was the oldest surviving airborne combat unit in Alaska, with a line dating back to the Aleutian Campaign.

354th Fighter Group

The 18th Fighter Squadron (18 FS), also from WWII, remained active, but the 355th Fighter Squadron (355 FS) replaced the 11th TASS.

The names of the 3d Fighter Training Squadron were also changing, which became the 353d Fighter Squadron (later Combat Training Squadron). The 353 FS and 355 FS were long associated with the new host unit.

All aircraft of the 354th Fighter Wing are marked "AK" on the tail. The 355 FS was inactivated in August 2007 as a result of Operation Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) 2005 and all A-10s were assigned to other USAF units. 18 FS was redesignated 18 Aggressor Squadron (18 AGRS) and remains at Eielson, operating F-16s in the adversary role.

Prior to moving to Alaska, the 354th FW was based at the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base in South Carolina for more than 35 years.

The 354th Operations Group directs the operations, training and standardization of F-16CG and weapon systems that provide day and night combat forces for worldwide deployments conducting air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. It provides training and support for the expeditionary combat use of assigned wing aircraft across the spectrum of air and space operations. Serves as the primary contact between the Federal Aviation Administration, the Army, and the Air Force on all Air Force applications.

The 354th Operations Group provides airlift support and realistic combat flight training in support of the 354th Fighter Wing, the Air Force, and national objectives.

The squadron's mission is RED FLAG-Alaska, a 10-day air combat exercise that takes place up to four times a year. Each exercise is a multi-species, multi-platform coordinated combat operation exercise and corresponds to the projected operational capability of the participating units. In other words, exercises often involve multiple units whose military mission may differ significantly from that of the other participating units.

It trains and supports worldwide expeditionary combat deployments for assigned wing F-16CGs. Support includes airspace and flight hours programming, life support, operational training, weapons and tactics, intelligence, operational plans, and on-site battle management systems. Responsible for local air traffic control, meteorological service and airport management.

The 1st Air Support Task Force provides warfighters and operational commanders with experienced meteorological technicians and battlefield surveillance to jointly manage attacks in multiple geographically separated locations. The 1st ASOG itself is assigned as a geographically separate unit to Fort Lewis, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA.

The 354th Maintenance Group provides aircraft and munitions maintenance support for the 354th Fighter Wing's F-16 Fighting Falcons and Red Flag - Alaska, transit and special operations aircraft operating at Eielson Air Force Base. Maintaining aircraft temperatures in Alaska that range from 90 degrees in the summer to -60 degrees in the winter can be challenging, but no matter what the conditions are in this beautiful land of extremes, my maintenance crew wife and I "stop flying." The 354th Sustainment Group staff includes command, quality assurance, information management, engineering technical services, and weapons training functions. In addition, three squadrons are assigned to the group:

The 354th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron provides aircraft production and weapons loading support for the Wing's aircraft. In addition to the command staff, the aircraft maintenance squadron has two aircraft maintenance units coordinated with each of the wing's fighter squadrons. The 18th Aircraft Maintenance Unit supports the 18th Fighter Wing's F-16s. Each of these aircraft maintenance units includes aircrew commanders, systems specialists, weapons loaders, maintenance planners, support personnel, and production managers tasked with deploying and augmenting air power anytime, anywhere.

The 354th Maintenance Squadron provides heavy aircraft maintenance and ammunition support for the wing. In addition, the squadron provides aircraft maintenance and ammunition support for Red Flag - Alaska (formerly Cope Thunder), transit and special operations aircraft operating at Eielson AFB. This squadron includes command staff, avionics, propulsion, accessory maintenance, armament, production, avionics, ordnance maintenance, and support personnel, who are also tasked with deploying and supporting the air force anytime, anywhere.

The 354th Maintenance Operations Squadron is responsible for overall maintenance group training, aircraft engine data management, maintenance operations, and maintenance plans and programs. The squadron also provides administrative support to the group's staff functions and is also tasked with deploying and supporting airpower anytime, anywhere.

Th Operations Group

The 354th Mission Support Group supports the 354th Fighter Wing by providing combat-ready forces, equipment and essential services while maintaining essential infrastructure and providing programs to improve the quality of life of the Eielson community. From family services to construction and security, the 354th Mission Support Group keeps the physical installation and its personnel at peak efficiency, despite the harsh arctic weather conditions that interior Alaska brings. The group also provides a convenient home for Eielson's affiliates.

Eielson functions much like any other city and boasts a population of nearly 10,000. A big part of the 354th's mission is to provide all the services and facilities necessary to make Eielson safe, comfortable and enjoyable for the Iceman team. Skilled craftsmen operate a thermal and coal-fired power plant, a water plant and a sewage treatment plant, making the facility almost self-sustaining. Security forces and firefighters ensure a safe environment for our families.

The 354th Mission Support Group operates and maintains more than 1,500 military housing units and more than 400 dormitories. Other activities such as a cafeteria, fitness center, library, skills centers, child development center and clubs are essential to the health and morale of all who call Eielson "home."

The 354th Logistics Readiness Squadron provides supplies, fuel, cryogenics, equipment and vehicle assets for the 354th Fighter Wing's F-16s and the 168th Refueling Wing's KC-135s. The squadron provides mobilization, operational maintenance, and cargo and personnel acceptance capability in support of the base's warfighting missions.

The 354 LRS is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Government fleet, which includes a large and diverse fleet of snowmobiles in addition to all cargo, passenger and household goods movements for Eielson AFB. The squadron also conducts an extensive base-wide training program in personnel mobility and cargo deployment operations. In support of these missions, LRS maintains and issues more than 80,000 items valued at more than $120 million. LRS receives, stores and dispenses 28 million gallons of jet fuel, 530 thousand gallons of ground products and 39 thousand gallons of cryogenic products annually in the fourth largest storage capacity system in the Air Force. In addition, LRS operates and maintains the Eielson Shared Mobility Complex, which is capable of handling more than 1,000 employees per day. The 354 LRS also provides supply, fuel and vehicle support for Exercise Red Flag - Alaska.

The 354th Contracting Squadron conducts market research; provides business advice and purchase planning to collect orders, perform submissions and perform contract administration; and provides performance management for all accommodation acquisition requirements relating to alterations, repairs and maintenance of existing facilities, architect and engineering project requirements and brand new construction.

The 354th Medical Group provides ambulatory medical care for all active duty military members and TRICARE recipients living in the Eielson area. In addition, its dtal clinic cares for all active military personnel.

The health clinic has two primary care panels; one is employed in a primary care clinic and the other in a flight surgeon's office. In addition, specialty clinics are available for pediatrics, optometry, physical therapy, immunizations, and life skills support. The clinic has a pharmacy, a laboratory and an X-ray service.

Bassett Army Community Hospital (BACH) at Fort Wainwright serves as a referral source for the Eielson Clinic for certain specialty and inpatient care. Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, located 30 miles north of Eielson AFB, is a Class II trauma center. degree and is used as a local reference source for services beyond our scope of care. Additional specialty services are available upon assignment to the 3d Medical Group at Elmdorf AFB, Anchorage, Ala., the Madigan Army Medical Cter at Fort Lewis, Wash., or as civilian care in the Anchorage area requires.

Dental services available to active members cover the full spectrum of medical care including endodontics, oral surgery, periodontics and prosthetics. dtal staff also provide educational services to elementary schools and assist other organizations with dtal disease prevention programs. Dtal care for the wards is provided under the United Concordia Dtal Plan.
