ammo prices chart

Ammo Prices Chart - It's no secret that the ammunition market has been volatile (to say the least) since the beginning of the Covid pandemic, but some calibers seem to be weakening while others are on the rise. Redditor is a Chainwaxologist who owns FoundryOutdoors.com, a web-based hunting and fishing retail store, so in order to keep his ammo and supply costs competitive, he started tracking ammo cost trends for the most popular calibers. . Chainwaxologist used their findings to create a handy chart that shows these trends in a user-friendly one-stop format to help us visualize the data. The Chainwaxologist's observations can be read below.

I'm back with more ammo price data. I own an online hunting retail business (FoundryOutdoors.com) so I jot down ammo price figures on Ammoseek every few days as ammo makes up a huge part of our business. Needless to say, it was a difficult year for our ammunition sales due to the limited stock available. Since the last update in June 2021, we've seen cost-per-round prices drop significantly from June through August, but have returned to higher levels in early September, likely due to increased demand during hunting season. Several calibers saw CPR prices increase by more than 25% in August alone, notably the 308 Win and the 7.62x39mm. Other calibers such as the 380 Auto, 9mm and 22LR have seen slower growth, likely due to increased supply as manufacturers prioritize production of these calibers during the pandemic; the fact that these calibers are not typically used for hunting may also help keep demand levels steady. From the beginning of September until now, we've seen prices drop 5-20% overall, meaning that in most cases the CPR is still 5-10% above the lowest prices we've seen in July/August. I have also spoken to several of the largest national ammunition dealers and unfortunately they agree with the outlook for limited ammunition stocks and higher prices through 2022. The data presented here is consistent with this outlook, but there may be a silver lining as prices are on a downward trend again.

I would like to thank Chainwaxologist for diligently documenting our situation and allowing us to share their photos and observations! A reader asked him if he included steel-case ammunition, and Chainwaxologist replied that he strictly followed the top (cheapest) lists for each caliber on AmmoSeek.com, which included steel case to account for ammo cost trends, but still gave us a total. talk about the whole picture.

I was surprised to see the 7.62×39 actually trending downwards since the recent ban on Russian produced ammunition. Is there anything about the ammo cost trend graph that surprises you?
