I Am The One

"I Am The One" is a Vine remix video series using the audio clip of Denzel Curry's 2015 hip-hop song "Ultimate". Most of the videos feature a sunglasses-dropping animation from the "So Deal" GIF series, along with videos of insults, stunts, and self-confidence.

On February 23rd, Jack Wiener uploaded a clip from the 2003 children's animated film Finding Nemo, featuring a behind-the-scenes clip of Ultimate (shown below, left). On February 26, Viner michael k uploaded a video of the class debate with the hook "Ultimate" sung at the end of the clip (shown below, right). Over the next three months, the videos received over 4.4 million and 6.9 million links.

On March 11, I Am The One posted a Best Vines montage to YouTube, garnering over 450,000 views and 560 comments (shown below, left) over the next two months. On March 23, YouTube channel Top Vines posted another "I Am The One" compilation video (shown below, right). In this rare exhibition of his watercolors and drawings, Miller's penguin covers are closer to still life studies than to two-dimensional posters. Experimenting with paper at different sizes and angles, he occasionally shows their highlights and shadows. It is a celebration of books as a treasure. His paintings, particularly his large-scale oil studies with scribbled down edges, are among his most intimate works to date.

Writer and artist Harland Miller (b. 1964) is known for his large-scale playful recreations of Penguin book covers. He explores the relationship between words and images and the process of creating meaning in his paintings, sculptures and mixed media works. Interested in canonical authors such as Edgar Allan Poe and Ernest Hemingway, and influenced by Ed Ruscha, Mark Rothko, Anselm Kiefer, and Robert Rauschenberg, Miller deftly combines text and image to explain the constant discontinuity between representation and reality.

In 2001, Miller created a series of paintings based on the dust jackets of the Penguin books, finding a way to combine Pop Art, abstract and figurative painting in the author's favorite way with the text. “I miss my parents' penguin books. For me, they're about remembering a bygone era - that sweet smell, the coffee smoke ring, the heartbreaking writing on the inside cover." Miller has lived and worked in New York, Berlin and Paris. Born in the north of England in 1964, Miller loves these northern his love of the shock and seriousness of cities remains a central theme in his work.“Mine is a very English humour,” he says.

Harland Miller was born in Yorkshire in 1964 and lives in London. Group exhibitions include the Royal Academy, London (2006, 2005), the Kunsthalle, Mannheim (2004) and the ICA, London (1996).
