Hurlburt Field Visitor Center - Welcome to the home of Air Commandos since 1961! Hurlburt Field supports the 1st Special Operations Wing, Headquarters Air Force Special Operations Command, the Air Force headquarters, and some allied units. It's a great place to live and work.
The first SOW has a 29-squadron wing, capable of deploying and sustaining combat anywhere in the world at short notice. AFSOC is America's special air force. Provides Air Force Special Operations Forces for global deployment and assignment to unified regional commands across the spectrum of conflicts. The center employs more than 8,500 employees, 32,000 retirees, 1,200 civilians and approximately 10,000 family members.

Of The Best Things To Do Near Hurlburt Field, Fl
There are no Amtrak stations on the Florida Panhandle or near Hurlburt Field. Alternatively, you can take a Greyhound bus from Fort Walton Beach and connect to Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Pensacola and other major cities on the East and South Coasts.
The closest airport to Hurlburt Field is Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport. It is about 15 miles from the front gates of Hurlburt Field. The airport is served by five major airlines (Allegiant, American Airlines, Delta, Southwest and United Airlines) with daily direct or connecting flights.
If you do not already have a DOD-issued ID, you will be subject to a background check at the Visitor Control Center before being allowed to enter Hurlburt Field. Click here to learn more about where to go.
Upon arrival, all permanently assigned personnel report to the Command Welcome Center with copies of orders and travel voucher receipts. The Command Welcome Center is the one-stop shop for welcoming new commands at Hurlburt Field. Upon arrival, incoming members will be escorted to the Hurlburt Welcome Center by their sponsor during their appointment. New immigrants are provided information by several agencies about programs, support and services available on the base.

Hurlburt Field Commissary lets you save your hard earned dollars when you buy food at the commissary. In-store amenities and specials include an ATM, bakery, deli, sushi, grab-and-go options and more.
Hurlburt Field Base Exchange offers a variety of health and beauty care, small appliances, electronics, toys and more. There are also ATMs, DVD rentals and 24-hour petrol pumps.
There is one barber on the base. It is open from 09:00 to 17:00 from Monday to Saturday, and from 10:00 to 15:00 on Sundays. Call for more information.

The official postal center is open regularly from 0900 to 1630 from Monday to Friday, and is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and federal holidays. Express and certified mail services are available with mailbox rental.
The Hurlburt Field Finance Office is open from 0800 to 1600 Monday to Friday. The office has resources available to help you understand and manage your finances, including one-on-one counseling to help your family with financial preparation, from basic planning to long-term investments.
The Hurlburt Legal Aid Office provides legal advice and assistance to eligible clients, including active duty, retirees and dependents with military identification. The office is where you want to go to prepare a will or review other legal documents, including powers of attorney, wills, bills of sale, simple affidavits, leases, name changes, uncontested divorces, etc. Call for hours or to make an appointment. Power of attorney and notary services are available on a walk-in basis.
The Hurlburt Field Base Library offers public computers, fax services, over 20,000 books, magazines, newspapers, story time, pay-per-view DVDs, 3D scanners, 3D printers, microscopes, loaner laptops and STEM accessories for hire.

Hurlburt Field offers temporary housing and accommodation on base. Air Force Inns offer cable, in-room coffee makers, refrigerators, Internet access, laundry facilities and are pet-friendly.

Although Wright is considered a census-designated place, it is nearly as populous as nearby Fort Walton Beach. The area is ideal for those bound to Hurlburt Field because of its affordable housing, excellent public schools, many parks and many restaurants.

There are many options for educating your child near Hurlburt Field. The state offers traditional public schools, as well as public charter schools and private schools. For infants, there are a variety of local childcare and childcare programs on and off campus. Children who live on base attend school in the Okaloosa or Santa Rosa school districts. There are no DoDEA schools on base.

The Hurlburt Field school liaison officer can provide more information about local school districts, homeschooling in Florida and special education resources. The primary school liaison officer can provide information and guidance on local schools as well as educational resources for your children.
Florida is known for its mild winters and humid summers. In the winter, the average high is in the 60s and the average low is in the 40s. In the summer, average highs can rise into the 80s and low 90s, with lows in the 70s. NAS Pensacola receives approximately 60 inches of precipitation annually.
Hurlburt Field and the surrounding area is home to sand, surfing, and sun fun, as well as historic sites, museums, art galleries, theaters, great restaurants and breweries, and shopping districts. On the grounds, there are many recreational opportunities, including bowling, camping, fishing, golf and swimming.
